Attendance
Attendance is important and every day counts!
A couple of notes about attendance:
Six middle school periods are equal to one unexcused day whether the absences are in the same or different class periods. Excessive tardies and check-outs add up quickly.
Truancy charges may be filed after
5 unexcused absences
or after
8 excused absences
unless there is documentation from a doctor. Tardies and check-outs can also lead to truancy charges.
Absences are either excused or unexcused.
Excused
absences are those due to emergencies such as illness, death in the family, religious holidays, or other extreme circumstances.
Unexcused
absences are all failures to attend school without proper documentation.
Anytime your child is absent, an explanatory
note is required within 3 days
to determine whether the absence is excused or unexcused. Absences can only be excused with a written note on file in the attendance office within 3 days of the absence. Any time your child is absent from school, you can expect a phone call from the school to let you know we are concerned about your child?s absence. If you choose, feel free to call the school to speak with Mrs. Brown when you realize your child will be out, but remember a note is still required upon return to school.
Repeated absences can also affect a student?s ability to earn a
Georgia Driver?s License
. We have prepared an explanatory
brochure
to help students and parents understand this important fact.
One of our biggest school goals is to improve attendance and it will remain an area of focus throughout the year.
Remember, all absences affect your child?s success and the success of the school as a whole ? thank you for recognizing this important factor and for your ongoing support!
