Dear Thomas Crossroad’s family members, this is my 10th year as principal of Thomas Crossroads Elementary School. As I stated at the end of the last school year, it was the best year ever in my career. This was made possible because of each of you. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done to help Thomas Crossroads to be the learning and caring environment it is. Know that, without everyone working as a TEAM, this would not be possible to accomplish.

 

Our theme for the coming year is, “It is Our Time to shine.” The 2012-2013 school year will be an even better year than last. We will continue to focus on Reading CAFÉ’ along with a greater focus in the area of mathematics. Dr. Durrance, Mrs. Basset and Mrs. Smith attended a professional learning training last year that sparked a great interest in the method of supporting math. The training was on the book Number Talks, written by Mrs. Sherry Parrish. After collaborating with them and reading the book, I am a believer. This is a wonderful book that will help our students build mental math and computation strategies. I truly believe, this will cause our math test scores to increase.

 

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Lynn Traylor (resource teacher) Ms. Lauren McKnight (SLP) and Mrs. Jill Edwards (sub for Mrs. Sheffer/family member) to our TCE family. Mrs. Traylor has 31 years of teaching experience. Mrs. McKnight has worked in the county as an SLP since January of this year. Mrs. Edwards is returning home for a short time. They all are eager to work with you and our students. They are excited about becoming a part of our team and working with students with CAFÉ and Number Talks. They all will bring a lot of experiences and strategies to help us improve. When you see them in the halls, please give them our Thomas Crossroads welcome.
